Stronger Together

Community is interwoven within the fibers of our ancestral DNA, helping to reduce stress and anxiety, improve mental health and increase our lifespan.

Community is part of our ancestral DNA. We are social beings in our most simple state. By having and building a true sense of community we can lower stress, reduce anxiety, improve mental health, and increase our lifespan- not to mention have some fun in the process. Leading an active social life can even protect you against memory loss. Spending time with others, engaging in stimulating conversation, and staying connected with family and friends are good for your brain health. Studies have shown that those with the most social interaction in their community experience the slowest rate of memory decline.

Now more than ever, we need to be connected. Even before our quarantine, separation through technology had taken hold of social interaction. We’ve lost touch of important life skills, like interfacing with colleagues, communicating with significant others and cooperating with friends. Consequently, new brain and emotional pathways have been paved that keep us in isolation and make us prey to social media opinions that take our focus off the ball. FOMO, right? We can help you get back to the human race by redeveloping skills such as listening, reading body language and thinking before we react- all without hiding behind a screen.

“Alone we get there faster, together we go farther.”

– African Proverb

WISE TIP #5: Schedule time in your week to do activities with friends. With our modern hectic schedules it’s important to block out time with those we enjoy. Go for a run, play golf, go fishing or just meet up and grab a coffee. Social interaction prevents cognitive decline and dementia. Human proliferation comes from happy relationships.
